On August 6, 2012, NASA hit Mars.  The much awaited landing by NASA’s  super hi-tech baby, the curiosity rover, began at launch just 9 months earlier on November 26, 2011.  Since then, stunning pictures and video of the red planet have been flowing in for all Earth dwellers to marvel at.  Prior to the landing, NASA released an Xbox simulation of the event for would be space explorers everywhere to experience what it might be like to land on the red planet.  The game, Mars Rover Curiosity Mission, features the star of the Mars mission, curiosity rover, and puts the gamer at the helm.  To give gamers and space fans everywhere even more delicious morsels, NASA streamed the landing of the curiosity rover via Xbox Live.

Now NASA is giving gamers even more love, Angry Birds style.  That’s right, NASA has joined with the Angry Birds team at Rovio to release a red planet, curiosity rover version of the popular downtime addiction.  These crossovers from hi-tech reality to virtual gaming  fantasy are spectacular and cutting edge in both technology, and in out-of-the-box style education.  Did someone say, “Where my schools at?”.  NASA has answers.

The mix of NASA, Xbox, and mobile gaming via Angry Birds takes us all on a bizarre ride from dream to reality, reality to dream, and back again.  The exposure garnished by these games helps to sew seeds of imagination into future makers and doers of the impossible.  Wow.

Thanks Xbox.  Thanks Angry Birds.  Good job NASA.
